THE AFRICAN UNION IGNORED DISCUSSING CRETICAL ISSUES ON THE CONTINENT AT THE 37TH ORDINARY SUMMIT

The 37th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), held in Addis Ababa, was firmly dedicated to addressing the continent's challenges, prioritizing key areas, and bolstering international diplomacy. Here's a breakdown of the summit's main points:

Agenda 2063: President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani of Mauritania, who led the AU in 2024, underscored the significance of Agenda 2063, signaling the start of its second phase. Education emerged as a central focus, aligned with the year's "Educating for the 21st Century" theme, emphasizing inclusive, quality, and relevant learning in Africa. with the fast-changing world, Africa needs to change its system of education so that young Africans can be able to have jobs on the continent and not move out of the continent.

Peace and Security: President Ghazouani committed to intensifying efforts to resolve conflicts continent-wide, stressing the need for a stronger African voice on the global stage, including advocating for a permanent UN seat. Collective action within the AU was emphasized as vital for tackling Africa's complex challenges. The number of conflicts in Africa keeps increasing every year and many have attributed it to bad governance and corruption on the continent. many expected the AU to discuss specifically the war in the northwest and southwest regions of Cameroon, but it was not on the agenda.

Key Priorities: Peace, stability, human rights, governance, and sustainable development were highlighted as crucial. The importance of robust organizations and resilient institutions as drivers of progress was acknowledged, alongside the emphasis on complementarity and integration to maximize impact.

Africa's Destiny: President Ghazouani emphasized Africa's imperative to steer its own international course, stressing joint AU action as essential for addressing pressing issues.

The summit, attended by leaders from AU member nations, international representatives, and guests, convened on February 17th and 18th. Discussions spanned various continental concerns, including peace and security, political reforms, education accessibility, Agenda 2063 implementation, and the ten-year plan. In essence, the 37th African Union Summit concluded with a firm commitment to shaping Africa's future through collaborative efforts, strategic planning, and a unified vision for progress.
