OTHERS JAILED FOR SPEAKING OUT IN CAMEROON. WILL THAT BE SAME FOR PRESIDENTS DAUGHTER BRENDA BIYA?

The daughter of the president of the Republic of Cameroon by name Brenda Biya went to her social media account and posted a controversial video in which she said: "People talk down at rebels and think being rebellious is wrong and they do not realize that some of the world heroes were rebels because it takes a whole person to stand up against an oppressive system that is unfairly treating other people". In the video, she cited names of certain heroes who have stood and fought against oppressive regimes at the detriment of their lives.

This video has kept many Cameroonians talking because it is unclear who Brenda Biya was addressing. Most southern Cameroonians think she was addressing the war going on in the northwest and southwest regions of Cameroon. others think she was only encouraging those fighting for the freedom of the people of southern Cameroon to continue fighting for self-determination while others think she was encouraging the anglophone Cameroonians to stand against the oppressive regime in Yaounde that has kept the people of southern Cameroon marginalized for more than 60years today.

Whatever her motive was, the Cameroon government has not responded to anything she said in the video. This may be because she is the daughter of the president. After all thousands of Anglophone Cameroonians are today dying in jail all over Cameroon because they either said things such as this or came out publicly to call the government to order each time they failed on their responsibilities. Many have also fled the country and are living in different countries around the world as refugees and may never go back home for fear of being arrested.

Brenda Biya will definitely go to Cameroon anytime she wants and if she will be arrested like other anglophones is what we are yet to see. If Cameroon is a state of law as the government claims then every citizen should be treated equally irrespective of whether you speak French or English or whether your father is a president or not.
