On August 30, 2023, a coup attempt unfolded in Gabon, led by Lieutenant-Colonel Guy Nzouba Ndama. Despite his efforts, the coup proved unsuccessful, leading to the arrest and detention of Nzouba Ndama. The coup commenced with Nzouba Ndama's forces seizing control of the national radio station and declaring their takeover of the government. This included the announcement of the removal of President Ali Bongo Ondimba from power, with plans to establish a new government structure.
