Tropical storm Colin forms in the Atlantic
Tropical storm Colin formed in the Atlantic Ocean on August 9, 2023, becoming the first named storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm is expected to make landfall in North Carolina on Friday. Colin formed from a tropical wave that moved off the coast of Africa on August 7. The wave quickly organized into a tropical depression on August 8, and then strengthened into a tropical storm on August 9. Colin is currently located about 100 miles off the coast of South Carolina. The storm is moving north-northeast at 10 mph. Colin is expected to make landfall in North Carolina on Friday morning. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the region. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting up to 6 inches of rain in some areas, with isolated totals of up to 10 inches. Strong winds could gust up to 70 mph.
