TINUBU THE CURRENT PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA HAS BEEN ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF ECOWAS.

On July 10, 2023, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria's newly elected president, was chosen to lead the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). In Bissau, the capital of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, he was chosen at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS. Tinubu is the eighth Nigerian head of state to be chosen as ECOWAS's chairman. Additionally, he is the first president of Nigeria to be elected chairman of ECOWAS. In his acceptance address, Tinubu stated that his main priorities will be to advance West Africa's democracy, peace, and security. He added that he will try to strengthen the region's economic unity. Nigeria's increasing importance in West Africa is seen as evidenced by Tinubu's election as ECOWAS chairman. Additionally, Tinubu's political future is considered as benefiting from it.
