MANY NIGERIANS TURN OUT UNDER THE RAIN TO CLEAN THEIR ENVIRONMENT ON WORLD CLEAN UP DAY

On September 18, 2023, despite heavy rainfall, volunteers in Nigeria exhibited their dedication by commemorating World Cleanup Day. This event was orchestrated by the African Cleanup Initiative, a non-governmental organization committed to fostering environmental sustainability and cleanliness throughout Africa.

Many brave the rain to clean their cities

Here's an overview of the event:

- Located in Lagos, Nigeria's largest city, the event drew hundreds of volunteers from various areas of the city.

- These volunteers were provided with gloves, trash bags, and cleaning supplies to facilitate their efforts in tidying up streets, parks, and other public spaces.

- This event was part of a global campaign aimed at promoting awareness of the significance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

- The African Cleanup Initiative has been coordinating similar initiatives across different regions of Africa since 2015, mobilizing over 1 million volunteers to enhance their communities.

- The organization also conducts educational programs to impart knowledge about waste management, recycling, and other environmental concerns.

Despite the relentless rain, the volunteers remained resolute in their determination to effect change and enhance their city's environment. They dedicated several hours to collecting litter and debris from public areas, opening up block drainage along some major streets. This event proved highly successful, with the volunteers amassing a significant quantity of waste that would otherwise have marred the environment. The group also too k time out to educate the public on the importance of cleaning the environment and also how waste can be recycle or reuse.

The African Cleanup Initiative deserves commendation for its unwavering commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and cleanliness in Africa. Through events like this, the organization raises awareness about the imperative of preserving a clean and healthy environment, inspiring individuals to take action within their communities

The World Cleanup Day event in Nigeria underscores the power of collective action and the significance of environmental sustainability. The unity and determination exhibited by these volunteers serve as an inspiring example, and it is our hope that such events will continue to motivate more individuals to take proactive steps to improve their communities.
