KENYAN FEMALE SENATOR SUSPENDED FOR SIX MONTHS

Despite opposition from certain members, the Senate upheld her suspension.

The recurrent suspensions of female Kenyan senators from their duties inevitably raise concerns regarding their conduct and efficacy as Senators. It is crucial for Senators to dutifully comply with the rules and regulations governing the House, while effectively representing their constituents and diligently serving the interests of the populace.

The suspension of Senator Gloria Orwoba has elicited varied responses from other female politicians. While some have come to her defense, others have criticized her actions. For instance, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has voiced her support for Senator Orwoba, alleging that her suspension from the Senate is a ploy to stifle women's voices.


In an interview with The Associated Press, Senator Orwoba acknowledged that the incident has spurred her to focus on drafting a bill that calls on the Kenyan government to provide an annual supply of sanitary pads to all schoolgirls and incarcerated women.

However, Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang'ata has censured Senator Orwoba's behavior, citing her unsubstantiated claims and disruptive conduct.

Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye has issued a warning to Senator Orwoba, stating that he will take legal action against her if she fails to apologize for her actions.
