Sudanese general warns Kenya against sending peacekeepers

Sudanese general has warned Kenya against sending peacekeepers to Sudan. The general, Yassir al-Atta, made the warning in a video released on Monday, July 24, 2023.

In the video, al-Atta said that any Kenyan troops who come to Sudan would be "killed". He also accused Kenya of being "bought off" by an unnamed third country.

Kenya's foreign affairs principal secretary, Korir Sing'Oei, has dismissed al-Atta's warning, saying that it is "unworthy of our comment". He has also said that Kenya is neutral in the conflict in Sudan.

The United Nations has been calling for an end to the fighting in Sudan, and has said that it is ready to send peacekeepers to the country if both sides agree. However, the Sudanese government has so far refused to allow UN peacekeepers into the country.
