SENEGAL OPPOSITION LEADER TO DISRUPT ELECTIONS IF NOT ALLOW TO RUN

2024 might see a little chaos in Senegal's elections, thanks to Ousmane Sonko. This opposition leader, beloved by many, could pose a serious threat to President Macky Sall. Yet, there's a catch. Sonko is in quite a pickle as he faces rape charges and a pending trial. If he's found guilty, his presidential dream may come to an end.

During a France 24 television interview, Sonko declared that the country's elections would be canceled if President Macky Sall aimed to oppose his candidacy. He further noted that potential protesting or striking actions could be considered if his participation was hindered.

Sonko's willingness to challenge the government has raised concerns about the potential for political instability in Senegal, disrupting the country's history of peaceful elections. Being a popular figure, Sonko has become a force that has the potential to destabilize.

The government may attempt to disqualify Sonko from running, regardless of whether he is acquitted in his ongoing trial and allowed to run for president. Senegal being seen in the region as a democratic model is closely being watched by other countries if it will uphold democracy.
