UPDATE : NIGERIAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

It's been three days since the Nigerian presidential elections took place on the 25th of February 2023. The voting pole results showed that the All progressives congress (APC) party headed by Bola Tinubu was leading in the elections, the people's democratic party (PDP) headed by Atiku Aboubakar came second ,and Labour party (LP) headed by Peter obi came in the third position. But due to the results of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) today shows that the the president of the federal republic of Nigeria cannot be declared yet since APC and PDP have failed to get the constitutional 25% requirements in the Federal Capital Territory.

As of now nobody can be declared the president since the Nigerian constitution states that the president of Nigeria is elected using a modified two- round system. To be elected in the first round a candidate must received a plurality of votes and over 25% of the votes of at least 24 of the 36 and the Federal Capital Territory. Therefore Tinubu cannot be declared as the president, since the Labour party (LP) headed by Peter Obi has just won in the Federal Capital Abuja.

Most of the  population of Nigeria especially the youths are happy that FCT just saved Nigeria from the crisis of succession while others are still in fear as to if the constitution will be respected as the said scenario was experienced in 2019 were Atiku won in the Federal Capital Territory FCT but Mohammed Buhari was declared the winner and president.
