THE CAMEROON GOVERNMENT FINALLY BOWS TO INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE

Six years into the war in the northwest and southwest region of Cameroon, between the Cameroon government and the separatist leader (Ambazonia), the government has always made it a policy not to engage in any form of negotiation with the separatist Leaders even after soo much pressure from the international community.

The Cameroon government organized a grand national dialogue 3 years ago in other to solve the problem but all the resolutions arrived at have either been partially implemented or not even implemented at all even though the separatist still hold grounds that the resolutions arrived at did not meet their demands.
After a failure in the Swizz-led dialogue that was organized by HD in Switzerland and was also endorsed by other western countries the Cameroon government did not show up for the dialogue.
With so much pressure coming from the international community, The Cameroon government was left with no choice but to accept to be a party to this negotiation to be held in Canada by the Canadian government. A statement issued by honorable Melanie Julie the minister of foreign affairs of Canada on the 20th of January 2023 stated that the Cameroon government and some separatist Leaders have finally accepted to meet at a negotiation table in Canada in order to seek peace and to end the ongoing war in the Northwest and southwest region of Cameroon and the minister also emphasize on the number of civilians that have been kill, the thousands displace and over 600,000 children not able to go to school.
Both parties have also agreed to form technical committees to begin work on confidence-building measures.

It should be noted that this is the first time the Cameroon government is showing any interest in coming to the table for any peace process out of Cameroon. The government had always insisted its an internal affair.
While the international community is watching closely to see if the Cameroon government will not back out just like it did in Switzerland many have also questioned if the separatist Leaders will be able to unite and speak with one voice in order to advance their cause.
