WAFCON 2022: Indomitable lionesses set to battle Nigeria in quarterfinal

Indomitable lionesses face their toughest test at the 2022 WAFCON on Thursday when they have to go past rivals Nigeria to qualify for next year’s FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The WAFCON quarterfinal against the Nigeria the best team in Africa according to latest FIFA Rankings, will determine one of four tickets to next year’s World Cup. The Lionesses put themselves in this tight corner no thanks to an opening day draw to Zambia and a second match draw to Togo for them to finish as runners-up in Group B Nigeria  also were not all-conquering in the group stage of the tournament as they had to settle for second place on six  points. Both teams now know they have to raise their game to reach the semifinals that comes with the top prize of a World Cup ticket. Nigeria hold the proud record of having featured in all the FIFA Women’s World Cups.

CAF releases final shortlist for Awards 2022 men’s categories

  CAF released the final list of nominees for the men’s categories on Monday, just as it said the ceremony will be televised live across Africa and the rest of the world. Top African stars both at home and in diaspora have made the final list of 2022 CAF Awards nominees list even as the unveiling of the Awards Winners have been slated for July 21, 2022 in Rabat, Morocco. The winners of each category will be decided by a voting panel made up of CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, Head Coaches & Captains of Member Associations and clubs involved at the group stage of the Interclub competitions for the 2021/22 season. Full List of Nominees (in alphabetical order by Member Association): Player of the Year (Men) Riyad Mahrez (Algeria & Manchester City), Karl Toko Ekambi (Cameroon & Olympique Lyonnais), Vincent Aboubacar (Cameroon & Al Nassr), Sebastien Haller (Cote d’Ivoire & Ajax) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt & Liverpool). Also in the list are: Naby Keita (Gui
