Rwandan President Paul Kagame to Seek Reelection in 2024

Rwandan President Paul Kagame in an interview with France 24 announced that he will be seeking another term in office in the upcoming 2024 elections. Kagame has ruled Rwanda for over two decades.

“I consider running for another 20 years. I have no problem with that,” he told the France 24 news channel

“Elections are about people choosing,” he added.

In the last presidential election in 2017, official figures showed he won 99% percent of the vote.

The Friday announcement is a u-turn from the president’s comments in 2019 in which he said he was unlikely to seek re-election in 2024
